Head Chef

 

Andrew Dekannwarri, a seasoned chef specializing in African and Caribbean cuisine, has acquired his extensive skill set over a successful 30-year career. Initially trained in London and Bournemouth, he began his culinary journey at Leith’s in the park, located near Kensington Palace Hyde Park in London. During this time, Chef Andrew had the honour of cooking for President Bush Senior and the renowned tenor Pavarotti. Throughout his career, Chef Andrew has worked with various restaurant chains and independent establishments within the hospitality industry. He gained valuable experience through Compass Catering, which provided him with opportunities to work at several prominent venues across London. In 1999, Was featured In the cookery book to many cooks for his contribution to Caribbean food In the Liverpool area his take on jerk chicken was well received. Chef Andrew established Uncle B’s Jerk – Food, an African & Caribbean event catering service that quickly gained recognition. Over the years, he has had the privilege of serving major clients such as American soul band TGT and Uber Thornton Manor Thornton Hall from the corporate world. His services cater to a wide range of celebrations including weddings, christenings, birthday parties, and more.

At 17, he studied at ‘Bournemouth College for Catering’ and qualified with honours. He subsequently spent several years working as a chef in central London, within a range of venues and with a wide variety of clientele. Café Rouge, Hyde Park, Kensington Palace, and even alongside top cookery guru Prue Leith were just a few of the notable places he worked. His culinary adventures also included catering for events hosted by President Bush (senior). After gaining a diverse array of knowledge and experience, he returned to his birthplace Liverpool, where his passion for food and business acumen collided.

It is clear he sees every element of cooking as important, even down to the nutritional content. With a growing interest in healthy eating, he began the creation of low GI food menus, special menus for diabetics and heart patients, and various dishes for those with a range of dietary requirements. His innovative approach to promoting healthy choices and catering to specific dietary needs set him apart in the culinary world. Recognition for his commitment to balanced and tailored meals followed suit.

Following his successful career in promoting healthy eating, he crossed paths with Bobby Maggie from the Liverpool Sunflowers Centre in Aigburth. Together, they formed a partnership and gave birth to the Good Food Project. Securing funding from the black funding organisation enabled them to provide monthly lunch clubs and a monthly food delivery service. Their collaboration not only brought nutritious meals to the community but also fostered solidarity and well-being. The Good Food Project quickly became a beacon of nourishment for those in need.
